PMMC regains application knowledge and accelerates modernization for cloud

PMMC

PMMC is a leading provider of revenue cycle management (RCM) software solutions and services to maximize net revenue for hospitals and healthcare systems.

CAST Imaging enabled PMMC to get familiar very quickly with the inner working of five core business critical applications to get maps of the as-is architecture to prepare their modernization before moving to Microsoft Azure Cloud.

Faster
modernization

of five business-critical
applications moving to cloud

Challenge

PMMC was looking to modernize and move five legacy applications to Microsoft Azure Cloud. They are all part of the core revenue cycle management solution, and made with C#, .NET, AngularJS, Dapper and are all sharing a SQL Server database. Strongly interlinked, the applications have been changed and growing over the years by different teams no longer around to sort out how they have been built, and how they are depending on and interacting with each other.

To gain back control over the applications, there was no architect available to dig into the codebase to establish the as-is architecture before modernizing it for moving to Microsoft Azure Cloud.

Solution

PMMC used CAST Imaging to gain back control of the knowledge of their business-critical applications.

CAST Imaging automatically reverse-engineers all the knowledge about the inner workings of the applications – all the objects, and their relationships, into a living knowledge base, with a google-map like user interface in a web browser.

To compensate for the absence of a dedicated architect, PMMC leveraged CAST Professional Services teams to run CAST Imaging in managed services.

PMMC now has a single source of truth showing the software’s interactions and dependencies, creating the most accurate and detailed view possible.

Results

CAST Imaging's accurate and interactive application architecture blueprints automatically generated allowed PMMC’s development teams to get familiar very quickly with the inner working of applications.

They could discover and visualize the inner-working of each application and get maps of the interactions between all the layers - UI to services components, services components to data services components, and data services components to the shared SQL-Server database.

With these maps of the applications, PMMC could identify all the parts of the applications and get a clear view of the as-is architecture to prepare their modernization before moving to Microsoft Azure Cloud.
