Advisory needed to build reliable retro-documentation for a core business application to guide a modernization initiative. They had already developed an AI Agent to automatically derive functional documentation, such as business processes and rules, from the application’s technical structure and code. However, their goal was to scale this approach efficiently across complex, polyglot codebases by testing CAST Imaging’s knowledge graph and technology coverage for faster reverse engineering and better AI alimentation.
To validate CAST Imaging, the Advisory team selected an application previously reverse-engineered through ad-hoc tooling and manual investigation. The stack combined .NET web services, legacy ASP pages, and complex T-SQL stored procedures, about one million lines of code.
In three days, they analyzed the application, onboarded it into CAST Imaging, wired knowledge graph exports into the AI Agent, then reviewed results against the reference structure.
Accuracy was confirmed and improved: CAST Imaging produced richer call graphs at code-element level, beyond the prior file-level view. JSON knowledge graphs were ingested by the AI Agent.
The work took three days, over 10× faster than the ad-hoc six-week effort.
With CAST, results are consistent and repeatable across diverse technologies, languages, databases, and frameworks, enabling the Advisory team to industrialize and scale the capability.
