CAST Highlight enabled Microsoft Azure teams to create a migration and modernization plan for 389 applications in four weeks.
Challenge
The client owns 389 applications comprised of 29 technologies and more than 241 million lines of code. Over time, their complex software estate accumulated considerable technical debt hindering innovation and driving up costs.
The client plans to modernize these applications on Microsoft Azure and reduce technical debt to optimize costs and business agility.
Solution
Microsoft and the client chose CAST Highlight to create a migration and modernization plan for the entire software portfolio comprised of 162 PHP, 13 Python, 38 C#/.NET, and 45 multi-cloud applications.
The plan included recommended cloud native services for each application such as Azure App/Web Services, Container Apps, or IaaS. Specific cloud blockers, effort estimates, open-source risks we also identified in the roadmap to create a clear path to Azure.
Results
The plan was completed in just four weeks versus the months it would have taken manually. Armed with facts, Microsoft proposed a precise path to Azure, including AI opportunities and security gaps. Recommendations included advanced security solutions like GitHub Advanced Security or Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
By focusing on applications instead of infrastructure, Microsoft’s recommendations delivered higher business value and accelerated digital transformation.
